Interstate removalists across Australia’s east coast
Pea Logistics is a backloading removalist: instead of reserving you a whole truck and charging for its empty trip home, we put your furniture on one already running your corridor. Same crew, same insurance, same schedule — from $115 per cubic metre, inc GST and insured to $20,000. A full 2-bedroom load — about 26 m³ — lands between $2,990 and $4,943 depending on the route.
Why a backloading removalist costs less
An interstate truck that carries a load from Sydney to Melbourne has to get back to Sydney. On the return leg it is roughly 40% empty, and someone is still paying for that diesel, that driver and that truck. A dedicated removalist passes the whole round trip on to you, because you booked the whole vehicle.
Backloading sells that empty space instead. Your 26 m³ shares a 25-tonne trailer with other people’s freight heading the same way, and you pay for your cubic metres rather than the vehicle. Nothing about the handling changes — it is the same driver, the same blankets and straps, the same insurance. What changes is that the truck leaves full.
The trade-off is honest and it is about dates, not care. A dedicated truck leaves when you say. A backload leaves when one is running your lane, which is why a ±1 week window earns 10% off. On our daily corridors that flexibility costs you very little; on a weekly lane it is the difference between this Tuesday and next.
Backloading vs a dedicated removalist vs driving it yourself
Three real options for an interstate move. The right one depends on how fixed your dates are and how much of the work you want to do.
| Backloading | Dedicated removalist | DIY truck hire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Lowest with a crew | 20–40% more | Cheapest on paper |
| Who lifts it | Our crew, both ends | Their crew, both ends | You and your friends |
| Your dates | ±1 week earns 10% off | You pick the day | You pick the day |
| Insurance | To $20,000 included | Usually included | Hire cover only, goods on you |
| You also pay | Nothing extra | The empty return leg | Fuel, tolls, two days off |

What’s included as standard
Driver-assisted load and unload
Our crew does the lifting at both ends. You don't hire labour separately or carry a lounge down two flights yourself.
Goods-in-transit insurance to $20,000
Included on every move, not sold back to you at checkout. Premium cover to $50,000 is available if your load warrants it.
A fixed estimate, not a range
You get a real number on screen in about 60 seconds. The rate is locked once ops confirms capacity for your dates.
SMS at pickup, in transit and delivery
The most common complaint about interstate removalists is silence for a week. You get told where your furniture is.
How booking an interstate move works
Tell us what you're moving
Pick a home size or list your rooms. The wizard turns that into cubic metres — the unit interstate moves are actually priced in.
See a real price, immediately
No form-then-wait, no sales call. The quote engine prices your route, volume and dates on the spot and shows the breakdown line by line.
Flexible dates knock 10% off
Give us a ±1 week window and you ride the next truck already running your corridor, which is where the saving comes from.
Ops confirms and locks the rate
We check real capacity for your dates before confirming. Once it's locked, the price doesn't move unless the load does.
Who you’re actually dealing with
Pea Logistics Pty Ltd, ABN 23 697 906 022. We run scheduled backloads across VIC · NSW · ACT · QLD rather than brokering your move to whoever answers the phone, which is why we can publish departure frequency per lane and hold a price once it’s locked.
Every move carries goods-in-transit insurance to $20,000, our terms of carriage set out exactly what we will and won’t carry, and there is a published refunds policy. Nothing about the pricing is hidden behind a call — the breakdown is on screen before you give us a phone number.
