Who moves on this lane.

Melbourne → Gungahlin or Belconnen (new build)

The classic version of this lane: someone taking an APS or contract role and settling in Canberra's fast-growing north — Gungahlin, Casey, Belconnen. Off the Barton Highway you're basically at the doorstep, so access is easy. A 2-bed from Brunswick or Coburg runs around $2,200, picked up mid-week for delivery the next afternoon.

Melbourne unis → ANU / UC (Braddon, Kingston)

Students leaving Melbourne, Monash or RMIT for a course or grad program at ANU or the University of Canberra, landing in a share house or apartment in Braddon, Turner or Kingston. These are small 5-12m³ loads where the $350 minimum usually applies — around $600-900, and flexible dates knock 10% off that.

Werribee / Point Cook → Woden or Weston Creek

Bigger family moves out of Melbourne's western growth suburbs into Woden Valley, Weston Creek or Tuggeranong. Full 3-bed homes with white goods and a garage's worth of gear, typically ~$3,100-3,400. We flag it at quote if a steep Woden driveway needs a smaller shuttle for the last stretch.

Tips for Melbourne to Canberra

  • 01The route is Hume Freeway (M31) out of Melbourne to Yass, then the Barton Highway (A25) into the ACT — it drops you straight into Canberra's north, so Gungahlin and Belconnen deliveries are the easiest on the lane.
  • 02This is a weekly lane, not daily — book 5-7 days ahead to lock the pickup day you want, especially around APS start dates and Feb/July uni intake.
  • 03Flexible by ±1 week? That's an automatic 10% off, and on a once-a-week lane it also gets your load onto the fullest truck sooner.
  • 04Live plants in soil can't cross into the ACT (biosecurity) — move pot plants in your own car or rehome them at the Melbourne end. Bare cuttings are generally fine.
  • 05Canberra streets are wide and truck-friendly, but Woden and inner-south hill blocks can have tight or steep driveways — mention the access when you quote so we bring the right vehicle.

Lane questions.

Anything else, call (03) 8612 7234 or start a quote and add a note.

How long does Melbourne to Canberra actually take?
About 660 km, so it's an overnight lane rather than same-day — we typically pick up in the morning and deliver the following afternoon. Long-distance loads usually stop overnight at a depot, so label anything fragile clearly.
Why is this lane weekly instead of daily?
It's a newer capital route, so we run one truck a week to keep it full in both directions and hold the price down. Booking a few days ahead and staying flexible on your date is the easiest way to get the pickup window you want.
Can you deliver to Queanbeyan or the NSW side of the border?
Yes — Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra and the near-border NSW suburbs are a normal delivery on this lane at no extra charge since we pass straight through. Further out into the Yass or Murrumbateman area is quoted as a short last-mile add-on.
