Why the two directions price differently
Backloading sells empty space, and this corridor's space isn't symmetric. Postings, transfers and February/July university intakes pull households south into Canberra, while the northbound leg carries less. A southbound truck shares its costs across more paying loads, so it quotes $139/m³; the northbound one quotes $159/m³. Most companies bury that asymmetry inside a 'from' price. We'd rather print it — it's also why flexible dates matter so much here, because a flexible load can ride whichever departure is emptiest.
The road itself
This lane runs inland — Goondiwindi, Moree, Narrabri, Dubbo, then Yass into the ACT — which dodges the Pacific Highway's holiday traffic and coastal flooding. It's remote country, and your goods spend a night on the truck at a depot, so pack anything fragile accordingly and keep the first-night box in your car. After heavy summer rain the Newell can flood around Moree; if you're moving December to March, a flex window is cheap insurance.
