The direction premium, explained
Backloading sells empty space, and this corridor's space isn't symmetric. More freight and more households head into SA than out. A westbound truck shares its 1,376 km across more paying loads, so it quotes $147/m³; the eastbound one quotes $169/m³. If you're moving Adelaide→Sydney, two things work in your favour. Short-notice space is usually easy to find. And the ±1 week flex discount (10%, automatic — about $470 on a 2-bed) matters more here than on any other lane we run.
Timing a weekly lane
Trucks usually run early-week: pickup Monday, delivery into Adelaide Wednesday. Book 7–10 days ahead — on a weekly cadence, missing the departure is the only way this lane ever feels slow. Transit includes an overnight depot stop, so pack anything fragile accordingly and keep the first-night box in your own car.
- Weekly departures — book 7–10 days out
- ±1 week flexibility = 10% off; worth the most on this corridor
- Sturt Highway harvest traffic can slow summer runs — keep a flex day
- No fresh produce through the Riverland fruit-fly zone, either direction
Both ends of the lane
Sydney pickups run metro-wide including the outer bands; Adelaide delivery covers the metro from Gawler to the Fleurieu edge with the Hills counting as metro (no feeder fee), and the Barossa, Clare, Murray Bridge and Victor Harbor pricing automatically as short feeder legs. Route pages: Sydney to Adelaide and Adelaide to Sydney — and the full rate card shows how this corridor compares to every other route we run.
